Digital Art and Digital Literature

Digital Literature and Digital Arts are very much in the early stages of it's evolution process. At the current moment in time it has not found it's dominant place in culture. There are many different aesthetics, some are bizarre such as a Japanese cell phone novel and some are very creative such as Magnet TV.

A lot of these ideas will not be around in years to come because as the medium grows and evolves the experimental ideas that were tried out become obsolete as the niche of the medium is found. New technologies such as 3d cameras and software such as Photoshop has transformed how art can be created and used. The digital culture sticks it's fingers in all pies. Things like Photoshop are a great way of making art for fun, for businesses and for self indulgence but only decades ago an idea like this would of been frowned upon as many thought this would be a way of cheating the artist. But in today's world people who use it have become the artist. It takes years for an idea to trickle down into society and for them to accept it. Photoshop is one of them examples.

In our lecture we were shown a digital novel called Inanimate alice. This novel requires the users participation to travel through the story. It uses text, music, video's and much more. It's a fascinating direction in which art and literature has travelled in which has tried to enhance the reader/users experiences by using already invented hooks and applying them in an up to date package.

Digital Literature is also a new phenomena which has entered our lives. Forget books! Through the use of smartphones and electronic book readers, we can read a book on a screen where ever we are. This obviously has the great advantage of storing multiple books on your device where as before you would of had to carry multiple bulky books if you wanted different options.
